Eichstätt: Part II

I am typing this entry from one bed out of six in a tiny cabin on a train to Paris. Never before have I been in so small a bunk bed!

Since Brendan couldn't download the movie yesterday, I took a nap, and woke up for dinner. I must hand it to him; it was deliciously vegetarian. I've been reading a lot of Watchmen, so I continued with that, and then we called it a night. Sundays in Germany just aren't the same as in the US!

This morning I woke up much later than he did, but I may finally be on European time. Brendan had class at 13:00, so around noon we wandered down into Eichstätt and I settled in on a bench near his classroom's building to read until 14:30. It was a pretty gorgeous day, never too hot or too cold, so I didn't mind the time to relax.

We had decided to go up the other side of the valley to see a castle after his class, and on the way there who did we see, drinking beer and smoking way too many cigarettes, but Matt Hartwell and Nick Kodama. We stopped and talked for a while, and I captured the meeting on camera. Apparently they're backpacking through Europe for a month on a grant that has them filming for social justice. It's ridiculous and awesome; I wish I'd thought of it.

The castle was gorgeous and had a great view of Eichstätt, as well as a beautiful garden that we could only see from above, since it was closed. The biergarten was also closed, unfortunately, so we made a trip to a grocery store for some much needed beer before making the last awful trip up his hill so I could pack.

Brendan got me on a 19:50 train to München Hauptbahnhof, where I waited for about an hour before the City Night Line pulled in. Car 118 was fortunately right in front of me, so I only had to find bed 34 before I could get settled. I'm here with an Indian family, so I'm going to cut this short and go to bed. So ends the German leg of my trip; it is now on to Paris and adventures with Maureen!

Bonne nuit! Love,
Sam
